Our Sunday School is divided into two age groups. We employ a part-time Sunday-school/youth coordinator with extensive youth programming experience.
Classes occur after a children’s time with The Dean or officiating minister at the beginning of the 10:30am service. Children return from Sunday school during the sharing of the Peace and Offertory Hymn. Classes are conducted in the Sunday School room (younger children) and Vestry (older children). Both rooms are located within the Cathedral building. Parents are welcome to accompany younger children to participate in activities with them.
The number of children in Sunday School averages 12 children but at times there are up to 25. Children are generally divided into pre-K–Grade 1 and Grade 2–6 groups. More advanced activities and discussion are offered to older children.
Classes are related to the lectionary readings for the day. The content follows a general lesson plan comprising:
- Greeting and focus question, related to the readings
- A lectionary reading (which children able to read are encouraged to participate in), followed by guided reflection
- Craft time, focussed on a theme from the reading. Supplies for crafts are provided
- Discussion of the reading and additional activity sheets
- Closing circle and prayer
Volunteer Teachers (Shepherds)
Our Sunday School Shepherds are the volunteers from the congregation who teach the sunday school classes. You don’t have to be a parent to get engaged with the children and youth of our Cathedral!
- Sing up to select sundays you wish to teach
- Classes and activities are planned and prepared by our coordinator
- You receive the lesson plan a few days before
- Lead and interact with our youth who are eager to learn about our faith
Please contact our Sunday School Coordinator to register as a Shepherd. This will require a criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening, available from the Saskatoon Police Service (Saskatoon Residents) or your community’s RCMP detachment if you attend from outside Saskatoon. The Cathedral will provide you with a volunteer letter to avoid the $70 fee.
Junior and Senior Youth Groups
Junior and Senior youth groups are a new initiative, and meet generally on Thursdays. Dates can vary and depend on attendance.
