Below are some of the ways you can get involved with your St. John’s!\r\n
The Altar Guild organizes itself in teams of two, rotating every three weeks. Each team has a six week break between their three week commitment. If you would like to join the Altar Guild you would be so welcome – please contact Sharon Mathiason at 306-931-8491 for more details.
All who wish to join us in the work of choral worship are most welcome. We appreciate any contribution to our Cathedral Choir, and will be glad to arrange participation on any terms. Currently the choir meets at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday mornings, to prepare for the 10:30 a.m. service. When preparing for special services choir practices are also held on Thursday evenings, 7-9 p.m. Please speak with Michael Harris, Music Director, after a Sunday service for more information.
COFFEE HOUR MINISTRY:
The coffee hour ministry following the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday mornings gives both parishioners and guests the opportunity to visit following the service. Currently a group of 16 teams rotate in offering this ministry three times a year. Training will be provided. Two or three people can comfortably offer this ministry on a given Sunday morning. Please speak to Darcey Anton, 306-321-5124, if you would like to be part of this ministry.
On Friday afternoons, 1:00 p.m. a small group of volunteers gather to fold bulletins and enjoy tea and friendship in the Cathedral Hall. Please call Sheila in the office if you would like to take part in this activity, 306-242-5146.
If you have been a member of the Cathedral parish for six months or longer you are warmly welcome to join the Liturgical Assistant Ministry and administer the Chalice during Holy Communion. Training is provided. If you are interested please speak to Ginny Blake, 306-374-1946.
If you are interested in being a person responsible for securing the church after the Sunday 10:30 a.m. service which involves locking the doors, turning off lights and the sound system, please call the Office at 306-242-5146. Training will be provided – a small team of people take turns in seeing this important task is done.
If you have been a member of the Cathedral parish for several months you are warmly invited to offer your skills as a Lay Assistant at the 8:00 a.m. service, and as a Server for the 10:30 a.m. service. This is a wonderful ministry for young people as well as adults. There is no lower or upper age limit in offering this ministry – carrying the cross or a candle depends only on your strength and balance. If you are interested please speak with our Head Server, Alexa Wallace, to arrange for a time to receive the necessary training.
Our Sunday School Shepherds guide one class of children through the planned and prepared program Sundays during the service. The sessions are planned by our Children’s Ministry Coordinator, and emailed to the Shepherds in the week prior. Typically each Shepherd facilitated one class each month, and has the option of working with the younger (K-Gr 2) or older (Gr 3-5) groups. Please speak to our Children and Youth Ministry Coordinator, Alexa Wallace, if you are interested in this opportunity to watch our young people grow.
The Stewardship Committee is investigating a framework to assist with ongoing stewardship education for the congregation. The vision is to have a framework that takes a holistic view of stewardship, including such diverse topics as Spiritual Growth, Financial Well-being, Outreach, and God’s Creation. While we continue to investigate options for this initiative, in the future we will want to put together a team to help administer the program. Please prayerfully consider whether you can assist with this team. For further information please contact Dean Scott, 306-242-5146.
